"De diverse ruimtes die Adelheid De Witte in haar schilderijen, tekeningen en installaties opbouwt, kan men beschouwen als een visuele vertaling van mentale constructies. De opvallende aanwezigheid van landschappen valt bijgevolg niet toe te schrijven aan de behoefte de realiteit accuraat weer te geven. De berg-, heuvel-, kust-, ijs- of boslandschappen vormen zachte, bijna abstracte omgevingen. Door felgekleurde vormen of – vaak alledaagse – objecten aan deze scenes toe te voegen, ontstaat een contrast op vlak van beeld en inhoud. Voorwerpen met een voor de hand liggende functie zoals meubels, speelgoed of sportattributen worden zo geplaatst dat de normale interpretatie van het geheel in het gedrang komt. Dit bevreemdende effect wordt nog versterkt door de menselijke afwezigheid en het gebrek aan duidelijk observeerbare handelingen. Hoewel de titels naar bestaande plaatsen en activiteiten verwijzen, lijken de ruimtes verlaten. De werken laten dan ook een tijdloze en gedesoriënteerde indruk na."
Adelheid De Witte (°1982) leeft en werkt in Gent. Ze is master in de moraalwetenschappen (Universiteit Gent) en volgde bijkomende opleidingen in beeldende therapie (Artevelde Hogeschool) en hedendaagse kunst (UB Barcelona).

"The surroundings presented in the paintings, drawings and installations of Adelheid De Witte can be read as visible ways through which mental constructions are represented. The prevalent use of landscapes is not initiated by the need to create accurate images. The mountainous, icy, desert, coastal, tropical or wooded landscapes form soft – almost abstract – environments. By adding bright-coloured items of the everyday to these scenes, a visual contrast as well as contrast in subject matter is created. Taken-for-granted objects like benches, pieces of furniture, toys or gym equipment are combined in a way that challenge the objective and the natural interpretation of the settings. This alienation effect is further enhanced by the absence of human beings and the lack of clear, observable acts. Although the titles of the pieces refer to actual places and actions, the areas seem abandoned. The works therefore generate a sense of disorientation and timelessness."
